Court interpreting is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States. The advent of state and federal laws requiring court interpreters to be certified through rigorous testing of interpreting skills has produced a demand for the training of aspiring interpreters. Training is also desirable for other aspects of legal interpreting even though such interpreting may not be regulated by law; for example, law enforcement interpreting, private attorney-client consultations, etc. The Iowa Court & Legal Interpreter Orientation Workshop presents a broad introduction to court and legal interpreting. Through interactive lectures, videos, written materials, exercises and analysis of an interpreting exam, you will gain the information and resources you need while preparing to enter this challenging and extremely rewarding field of work. Receive resources on preparing for state and federal court interpreter certification. Some breakout sessions involve practice in the participant's languages (a minimum of two participants of each language is needed for this activity). The successful completion of this workshop fulfills the Iowa Judicial Branch orientation requirement. You must take the Orientation Workshop before you can take the Iowa Court Interpreters Written or Oral exams. For information on the Court Interpreter Written Exam, please click here.
